5 Fantastic Things to Watch This Weekend Presented by State Farm®

By Courtney Potter

The weather is warm, the beaches are full, and the grills are ready for all your favorite dishes… but that doesn’t mean there isn’t also time for some quality viewing from around the worlds of Disney! After all, those favorite streaming devices can often go wherever you do! (Although truth be told, who doesn’t love a nice, cool indoor sojourn on the couch after a hot summer day? We’re big fans.) This weekend, we’re heavy on the documentary tip, with a new National Geographic travel series, a look at an incredible true-life jewel thief, a concert by a certain Grammy Award®-winning band, and so much more…

In an image from Never Say Never with Jeff Jenkins, Jenkins hikes in a thickly wooded area near the Lake Tarawera shore in Rotorua, New Zealand. He wears a light purple vest and yellow long-sleeved shirt and is surrounded by beautiful greenery. He looks around in awe.

Never Say Never with Jeff Jenkins—now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu
This amazing new series debuts on both streaming services after premiering on NatGeo last weekend. Travel journalist Jeff Jenkins didn’t step foot on a plane until he was 20 years old—but once he did, he started living by his mantra, “Life begins where your comfort zone ends.” His mission is to inspire those who look like him to travel without fear and push past their perceived limitations to experience everything the world has to offer. Never Say Never follows Jenkins as he travels the world testing the limits of his physical abilities… from attempting to climb 70-foot mountain faces, to rafting class 5 rapids, to sailing in a windstorm at the end of the world. Throughout his global odyssey, Jenkins makes deep connections with locals and learns not just about the world, but also about himself.

In an image from Hulu’s The Jewel Thief, mugshots and various other images and paperwork about criminal master Gerald Blanchard can be seen tacked up onto a corkboard. In many images, he appears quite young. There are a few other unknown people seen in photos as well.

The Jewel Thief—now streaming on Hulu
The Jewel Thief is the unbelievable first-hand account of Gerald Blanchard—one of the most creative, calculating, and accomplished criminal masterminds in modern history. With savant-like skill and a peculiar pride, Blanchard’s decades-long crime spree ranged from shoplifting to bank robbery to the theft of a royal crown jewel. Told through the first-hand account of Blanchard himself and the unlikely Winnipeg detectives who tracked him across the globe, the film presents an offbeat, rollicking journey through a series of increasingly elaborate heists as Blanchard seeks fame and notoriety through a life of crime.

In a promo image from Imagine Dragons Live in Vegas, band members—Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and Daniel Platzman—are sitting on stools and wooden boxes. They’re all wearing clothing in whites and browns. They look seriously at the camera.

Imagine Dragons Live in Vegas—debuts Friday, July 14, on Hulu
Far from the days of playing in dive bars and casinos across the Las Vegas Strip, Imagine Dragons returns home to perform at the city’s largest stage, Allegiant Stadium, in a triumphant concert film that showcases the band’s rise to fame and the city that helped shape their sound. Featuring band members Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and Daniel Platzman, and directed and produced by Matt Eastin.

In an image from Disney Branded Television’s SuperKitties, Buddy (voiced by JeCobi Swain), Bitsy (voiced by Pyper Braun), Sparks (voiced by Cruz Flateau), and Ginny (voiced by Emma Berman) stand next to the SuperKitty Kit on a grassy field in front of a row of houses, other buildings, and trees. They are looking intently at the Kit.

SuperKitties—Friday, July 14, at 8:30 a.m. on Disney Channel and 1:25 p.m. on Disney Junior
The episode’s two stories include: “Lost Spark,” in which Sparks (voiced by Cruz Flateau) falls off his SuperKitty Kit, and the SuperKitties help him get the courage to ride it again; and “Bitsy Bellyache,” where Bitsy (voiced by Pyper Braun) eats too many treats and can’t help the team stop Lab Rat (voiced by Ruth Pferdehirt).
