Tess Coleman, Freaky Friday (2003) and Freakier Friday (2025)

Tess Coleman (Curtis) thinks her 13-year-old daughter, Anna (Lindsay Lohan), leads a charmed life—free from the responsibilities of adulthood. Anna, meanwhile, wishes she was an adult that didn’t have to deal with the horrors of high school. In Freaky Friday (2003), this mother-daughter duo learns that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. It’s a family-friendly adventure with something for everyone: heartfelt moments, laugh-out-loud hijinks, and awesome music courtesy of Pink Slip!

Donna Berzatto, The Bear (2023-present)

Winner of 21 Emmy® Awards, The Bear is one of the hottest shows on TV. And if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

The Bear follows Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) as he turns his family’s local sandwich shop into a fine dining establishment called The Bear. The stakes are high both personally and professionally, and neither world offers Carmy any relief. Enter Carmy’s mother, Donna (Curtis). Donna is a hot-tempered and dramatic woman who deals with intense mood swings. Throughout her appearances on The Bear, she can be seen berating her family members who try to help her cook dinner; refusing to attend the opening of The Bear; and even driving a car through the side of a house. Donna is aware of her challenging personality but struggles to change for herself or her family. A fifth season of The Bear is in the works, and the first four seasons are streaming now on Hulu.

Madame Leota, Haunted Mansion (2023)

“Serpents and spiders, tail of a rat; call in the spirits, wherever they’re at!” Madame Leota, one of 999 dreadfully delightful residents of the Haunted Mansion and Phantom Manor attractions at several Disney Parks, comes (back) to life on the big screen in 2023’s Haunted Mansion.  When a bereaved man asked Madame Leota (Curtis) to perform a séance to contact his late wife, he wouldn’t accept that she had moved into the afterlife and out of Madame Leota’s reach. He made Leota perform a séance every midnight for a year—bringing hundreds of ghosts into his mansion, including the Hatbox Ghost. When Madame Leota tried to stop the Hatbox Ghost from tricking the widower, he imprisoned her in a crystal ball and locked her in the attic! Haunted Mansion is the perfect movie to get you in a spooky state of mind, no matter what time of year it is! Watch it now on Disney+.

Dean Cathy Munsch, Scream Queens (2015-2016)

When a masked killer disguised as the Red Devil mascot of Wallace University starts leaving a trail of fallen students in their wake, Dean Cathy Munsch (Curtis) knows something needs to be done. Scream Queens follows the aftermath of a Kappa Kappa Tau house party gone wrong. Amidst the chaos and fear the Red Devil strikes into the students at Wallace University, Dean Munsch and KKT president Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) butt heads over the future of the picture-perfect sorority and what these murders mean for Wallace University. Fun fact: In the series, Cathy has watched the 1960 horror classic Psycho 50 times. The star of this film and real-life scream queen Janet Leigh is Curtis’ mother! Screams Queens is streaming now on Hulu.

Aunt Viv, Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008)

Wealthy businesswoman Vivian Ashe (Curtis) is dog mom to her pampered chihuahua, Chloe, and aunt to her fun-loving niece, Rachel (Piper Perabo). The fun begins when Aunt Viv leaves Chloe in Rachel’s care while she goes on a business trip. Rachel decides to go on her own spontaneous trip to Mexico with friends, and brings Chloe along for the ride. When Chloe gets taken after looking for Rachel outside her hotel, she goes on a wild adventure that teaches her that chihuahuas are tiny but mighty. Her journey ends when she reunites with Rachel and the pair returns home to Beverly Hills, where Aunt Viv is none the wiser about any of their hijinks. Helen Tasker, True Lies (1994)

To his family, Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is your average Joe—a dull computer hardware salesman who is seemingly always on a business trip. Little do they know that these “business trips” are actually spy missions where Harry infiltrates international crime organizations! When his wife, Helen (Curtis), has a midlife crisis, Harry decides to invite her into his adventure-filled secret life. But what begins as a staged spy mission turns into a real one when the couple is kidnapped by one of the crime syndicates Harry has been trying to take down. The only way to stop their master plan? Work as a team, mend their relationship, and give Helen the adventure she’s always dreamed of in the process. Watch James Cameron’s True Lies, streaming now on Disney+.

Kim Hammond, Prom Night (1980)

What would a Jamie Lee Curtis roundup be without one of the scream queen’s many “final girl” roles? In Prom Night (1980), four young kids take bullying too far when their teasing causes the accidental death of their friend, Robin. The quartet vows to never tell anyone what happened, but the truth always comes to light. Fast forward to the group’s prom night and they—including Robin’s older sister, Kim (Curtis)—are targeted by a masked killer looking to avenge Robin’s death. The friends are picked off one-by-one in this ‘80s slasher flick from Canada, which is streaming now on Hulu.
