The Hollywood Pictures film One Good Cop first landed in theaters on this day in 1991. The film stars Michael Keaton as New York City police lieutenant Artie Lewis. The film tells the story of what happens when Artie’s longtime partner is killed in the line of duty. Artie and his wife find themselves taking in his partner’s three orphaned daughters. Unable to make ends meet on a cop’s salary, and finding his family threatened, he will do anything to protect and care for his new family, while remaining one good cop. Keaton tried hard to make his character believable. “A lot of guys go out of their way to portray cops as being very ‘coppish.’ I wanted this guy to live in his own skin, so that you would know he didn’t have to do anything extraordinary for you to believe that he was a detective. The real guys don’t work anything like Hollywood detectives.”
