Hiya folks! The area in Disneyland behind it’s a small world had never been seen by guests up ’til this date, so Imagineers decided that’s where Mickey and all his cartoon pals had been living, and on this day in 1993 guests were first welcomed in to explore Mickey’s Toontown. Perhaps those Imagineers were right. After all, Mickey Mouse’s house was there, as were the homes of Minnie, Donald Duck, and Goofy, along with the Gag Warehouse and the bouncy Jolly Trolley which could transport guests on a wacky path from one end of the land to the other. There was also the high-speed Gadget’s Go Coaster ride, based on the animated television series Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers. The new land even had its own theme song! It was heard in pre-parade entertainment as Mickey and Minnie drove down Main Street as well as in the Mickey’s Toontown Welcome Blast, a short show which would perform right on the streets of Toontown and featured a cast comprised of members of the Dapper Dans of Disneyland barbershop quartet. The tune, or toon, rather begins, “Let’s put out the cat and the welcome mat, inviting you to our habitat. Once you’re here, we know you’ll want to stay! In Mickey’s Toontown… All these years they’ve been living here, then magically Shangri La appears. Now we’re happy that you found your way, to Mickey’s Toontown… today!”
