The relationship between Dr. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her 13-year-old daughter, Anna (Lindsay Lohan), is a lot like many mother-daughter relationships during teenage years: strained. One night at dinner, when Anna complains about her mother’s lack of support for the rock band she plays with and Tess weighs in with her own disappointment over her daughter’s disapproval of her fiancé, an argument breaks out. After each of the combatants eats identical enchanted Chinese fortune cookies, the following morning mother and daughter awake to find that things have taken a turn for the worse—and hilarious—when Tess and Anna discover that each is in the other’s body. The 2003 version of Freaky Friday marked the third time the story has been told on screen—a 1977 film version starring Jodie Foster and a 1995 television version starring Shelley Long came before it.
