Quiz: Which Disney Animal Are You?

Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red is a coming-of-age story about Mei Lee, a confident, dorky 13-year-old girl who discovers that she “poofs” into a giant red panda every time she experiences a strong emotion. Like Mei, feelings can get the best of all of us sometimes! Whether you’re angry, excited, gleeful—or maybe even a little down in the dumps—this quiz will help you find out which Disney, or Disney and Pixar, animal you would transform into when you get in your feels…

You have no plans this weekend. What will you do with two days completely to yourself?

Your best friend is having a really bad day. What will you do to cheer them up?

Your favorite ice cream flavor of all time is:

When opening presents on your birthday, which gifts do you gravitate towards first?

Which is your favorite Disney song?

Which Disney Princess would you want to go on an adventure with?

What do you do when you have a difficult problem to solve?

How long do you take to get ready in the morning?

If you could have any of these superpowers, which would you choose?

Finally, which Disney animal is YOUR favorite?

Which Disney Animal Are You?
Hei Hei

Moana - HeiHei

Your muted demeanor is hilarious, but it can get you into sticky situations at times. Like Hei Hei, you enjoy zoning out and letting fate lead your way through life. You are a great friend to chill out with, but seriously—you do need to watch where you’re going!
Marie

The Aristocats - Marie

Just like Marie, you don’t start fights, but you can finish them! You think of yourself as a prim and proper person, but you can also be playful and mischievous. You love your family, friends, and going on adventures... all while looking stylish, too.
Rainbow Unicorn

Like the famous Rainbow Unicorn, you enjoy the finer things in life and know that you deserve the best. Maybe it’s your flashy appearance or your long list of credits at Dream Productions, but people can’t help but take note of your fabulousness!
Rex

Rex is a loyal friend, through and through. Just like you, he’s there when his friends need him, even if he is terrified of almost everything. Honest to a fault and always willing to lend a helping hand despite any anxiety, you and Rex make excellent adventure buddies!
Stitch

Lilo and Stitch - Stitch

You live life on the edge! Like Stitch, you are a lean, mean, destruction machine, but you also have a heart of gold. On the surface you leave most situations in chaos—but deep down you’re warm, snuggly, and would do anything for your friends. Remember: “Ohana” means “family”!
Heimlich

If there is one word to describe you and Heimlich, it’s “ravenous.” Nothing makes you happier than a yummy treat—and you love to spend time with friends at restaurants, cooking at home, or pretty much anywhere you can be simultaneously snacking. You need a lot of sustenance to become a beautiful butterfly!
Terk

Tarzan - Terk

Just like Terk, you are the life of the party! You love to have a good time, throw parties, and get down on the dance floor. You’ve probably given your friends stomach aches from laughing so hard at your hilarious jokes—and you always know what to say to make someone smile.
Scar

The Lion King - Scar

Cool, calculated, with a sleek sense of style. Just like Scar, no one intimidates you... and you intimidate everyone! You’re always one step ahead of the people around you, but you make world domination look easy with your calm, refined attitude. The world better be prepared for what you have in store.

Disney+ to Introduce an Ad-Supported Subscription Offering in Late 2022

The D23 Team

In a first for Disney’s premier direct-to-consumer streaming service, Disney+ will expand its offerings for consumers by introducing an ad-supported subscription in addition to its option without ads, beginning in the U.S. in late 2022, with plans to expand internationally in 2023.

“Expanding access to Disney+ to a broader audience at a lower price point is a win for everyone—consumers, advertisers, and our storytellers,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. “More consumers will be able to access our amazing content. Advertisers will be able to reach a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their incredible work with more fans and families.”

Disney leads the market with quality and premium ad experiences. It is home to the industry’s premier ad-supported streaming services, including Hulu, a pioneer and leader among all ad-supported video-on-demand subscription services, and ESPN+, which continues to pave the way for direct-to-consumer sports programming and live events. This type of innovation, driven by advertising that is contextually relevant to viewers, will soon extend to Disney+.

“Since its launch, advertisers have been clamoring for the opportunity to be part of Disney+ and not just because there’s a growing demand for more streaming inventory,” said Rita Ferro, President, Advertising, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. “Disney+ with advertising will offer marketers the most premium environment in streaming with our most beloved brands: Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic. I can’t wait to share more with advertisers at the Upfront.”

The ad-supported offering is viewed as a building block in the Company’s path to achieving its long-term target of 230 million–260 million Disney+ subscribers by FY24.

More details, including launch date and pricing, will be announced at a later date.

7 Terrific Tales from the Turning Red Press Conference

By Courtney Potter

Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red follows Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old growing up in 2000s Toronto, Canada, as she’s torn between staying a dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), her protective (if not slightly overbearing) mother, is never far away… an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, a.k.a. her utter devotion to the film’s uber-popular boy band 4*Town; her relationships, including those with BFFs Miriam (voice of Ava Morse), Priya (voice of Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), and Abby (voice of Hyein Park); and her body weren’t enough, whenever Mei gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant, albeit seriously adorable, red panda!

Directed by Domee Shi, who helmed 2018’s Oscar®-winning animated short Bao, and produced by Lindsey Collins—with a screenplay by Shi and Julia Cho—Turning Red will “poof” its way onto Disney+ beginning in just over a week. To celebrate the film’s impending debut, the voice cast and the filmmakers gathered for a rollicking virtual press conference, where they shared some terrific “tails” and meaningful memories about their experiences making the film.

Turning Red

Chiang on discovering how much Mei’s life resembles her own—amazingly so:
“After watching a movie, my mom and I looked at each other and said, ‘This is really similar,’” the newcomer explains. “There are so many odd, really weird coincidences. First of all, my mom’s middle name is Ming. There’s no way they could have known that! And my favorite animals were actually red pandas—before the whole project even started. But the main thing is that my mom, since way before this project, actually calls me Mei Mei! It means ‘little sister’ in Chinese… So, when [Ming in the film] says, ‘Oh, perfect little Mei Mei,’ I’m like, ‘Hey, that’s what I literally went through!”

Oh on the importance of two kinds of relationships—those with friends and those with parents:
“Having young women and young girls in my life, and watching television and films with them over the years, you just realize, ‘I don’t know who sets this up—that girls are [catty]—because I don’t think it’s true,” the Golden Globe® winner explains. “And I think this film is an extremely good representation of deep friendships, the highs and the lows. I have relationships and friendships that are 40 years old. What I love about this film, through the friendships and also the music, is it [shows] that precious time when you’re starting to figure out who you are, when your friends become really, really important.”

Turning Red

Collins on asking Billie Eilish and FINNEAS to create 4*Town’s songs:
“At one point we were like, ‘All right, who’s gonna write the music—and who do we approach?’” the producer says. “I have three teens at home and they’re listening to music constantly. And Billie and Finneas’ music was being played all the time in my house; they were clearly people who were speaking to this generation… So, we thought, ‘Well, let’s ask.’ It felt ridiculous at the time—it’s such a weird ask. They’re super popular. I didn’t even think they were gonna take the meeting. But I think maybe because it was such a weird ask—it wasn’t, ‘Oh, sing us a song’; it was, ‘Can you write boy band songs for us?’—they were intrigued. We went down and pitched it to them, in person. And before the meeting ended, they were like, ‘We’re in!’ It was huge. It was a gift, really.”

Ramakrishnan on her own 4*Town-esque concert experience:
“I remember—and this is gonna be very Canadian of me—going into grade nine, going into high school, and that summer before, I went to my first concert,” she admits. “I went to see [Canadian pop group] Marianas Trench and I lost my mind! I was always wondering, ‘Why do people cry at a concert? Shouldn’t you be excited to be there?’ You would be smiling, maybe laughing, who knows. But then as soon as they came out on stage I was bawling, and I thought, ‘I understand now. I understand why I was so emotional.’ I didn’t know exactlywhy, but it just made sense. The importance of music, growing up—it totally shapes who you are.”

Morse on coming to her character from an authentically teenage standpoint, and what she loves about Miriam:
“I’m currently a high school student,” she explains, “and everybody is just growing and changing together. It can be very stressful and even dark at times, ’cause everyone is going through a lot, and not everyone knows how to handle that. But at the same time, it’s kind of a beautiful thing. Everybody’s in that together and putting their all into living their lives the best they can… I was really inspired by my own friends, putting them into Miriam herself; she is such a supportive and amazing friend to Mei and the other girls. My friends are so supportive and always there for me, no matter what, so I thought it was really cool to kind of ‘give back’ in that way.

Turning Red

Cho recalls collaborating with Shi on the screenplay:
“It was really a joy to be able to embrace all of my own self in the writing of this,” she admits, “and having partners who loved it. We would always encourage each other to bring more and more of ourselves into it. One of the things Domee and I really connected on, pretty early, was the fact that we both grew up really tight with our moms in a way that was beyond culture, beyond anything—it’s just the way we personally developed these relationships with two women who are very strong in very different ways. I think that for us, the story was also—in that sense of transition—going from a girl whose mom is your whole world to a young woman who’s starting to learn to be independent, and how scary that is… The fact [is] our moms are still very much a part of our lives, but we had to find a newrelationship with them. So, I think a lot of that definitely went into this story, and into these characters.”

Shi on advice for other women directors, and what she hopes audiences—especially young girls—take away from the film:
“Being able to find a support system and a community at Pixar, that was so valuable for me—and really built my confidence and my voice as a filmmaker and a storyteller,” the director explains. “When I first started at Pixar, there were four or five women in the story department—and we started having lunches together and sharing stories. I remember this one lunch where we all went around and said our goals out loud—and that was the first time that I actually said, aloud, ‘I want to direct!’ Then I was embarrassed and thought, ‘Oh no. Why did I say that?’ But everyone responded, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah!’ And I think just saying it and putting it out there—and being with people that support and validate you—that can make you not feel so alone… That was huge for me.”

“The inspiration behind Turning Red just came from my own life—growing up in the early aughts as a Chinese Canadian dorky, sassy, nerdy girl who thought she had everything under control,” she continues. “She was her mom’s good little girl. And then boom, puberty hit. And I was bigger. I was hairier. I was hungry all the time. I was a hormonal mess and I was fighting with my mom like every other day. Making this film was kind of my chance to go back to that time—to make [something] for 13-year-old me, the teenager who thought, ‘What’s happening to me? No one’s telling me anything!’ I think it’s so cool that audiences can take comfort in the story, but it’ll also make them laugh as well.”

Hollywood Goes Wild at the World Premiere of Turning Red

By Sarah Sterling

On Tuesday, Hollywood came out to celebrate the world premiere of Disney and Pixar’s 25th animated feature film Turning Red—and has there ever been a more appropriate time for a red carpet? Turning Red is the story of 13-year-old Meilin Lee (voiced by newcomer Rosalie Chiang), an overachieving student, dutiful daughter, and steadfast friend whose life is flipped upside when she discovers her family’s big, hairy secret. When the women in Mei’s family reach adolescence, they gain the power to transform into gigantic red pandas! But is this power a blessing or a curse? Mei must decide between being her mother’s perfect “Mei Mei” and embracing who she really is (furballs and all).

Turning Red

Mei’s story heavily centers around her very close group of friends. These girls do everything together, whether it’s causing chaos at middle school or convincing their parents to let them go to a 4*Town concert. Miriam, Priya, and Abby love Mei for who she is and are a key part in helping her tame her inner beast. On the red carpet, we spoke to Ava Morse, who voices Miriam, about the strong female friendship featured in Turning Red. “[Miriam] is so supportive of all of her friends and is always there for [them] no matter what,” Morse said. “To be able to set the road for young girls to have that inspiration for what a true, healthy female friendship looks like? I’m honored to be a part of that.”

Turning Red

Speaking of Toronto’s hottest boy band, 4*Town...

One of the most unique aspects of Turning Red is its noticeable setting in the year 2002. This movie is chock-full of Y2K nostalgia for millennial audiences to appreciate. Mei owns a Tamagotchi-esque virtual pet, she and her friends record themselves doing silly dances on a Hi-8 camcorder, and, YES, they have their very own boy band to obsess over! Grammy®-winning musical artists Billie Eilish and Finneas wrote 4*Town’s hit single, “Nobody Like U” which is sure to have “Everybody” saying “Bye, Bye, Bye” to your old playlists because it is a massive earworm!

Turning Red

4*Town is made up of five members, including Finneas himself, who voices Jesse. Disney fan-favorite Jordan Fisher lends his voice to Robaire, with Topher Ngo, Josh Levi, and Grayson Villanueva rounding out the band as Aaron T., Aaron Z., and Tae Young. These guys are huge boy band aficionados themselves! Villanueva let us know he was especially inspired by *NSYNC and sang their music for his audition tape. Villanueva and Ngo also revealed they are real-life best friends who have supported and mentored each other throughout their musical careers! Ngo told us, “We sing in a cappella groups together and he’s actually a big brother of mine. When I was first in L.A., I didn’t know what I was doing, and he was like, ‘Yo, man! Let’s go get coffee. I’ll sit you down and show you how to do this music thing!’ So, it is so rewarding to be in this film with him.”

Turning Red

Sherry Cola, who voices one of Mei’s aunties, honed in on the core message of Turning Red. “At the end of the day, it’s about embracing who you are and staying true to yourself and letting that red panda unleash when it needs to!” Cola said. These are themes that any person can relate to, and while Pixar has crafted coming-of-age stories before, Turning Red differentiates itself with a pointedly female lens and understanding of the Asian Canadian experience. But this is a universal story, according to director Domee Shi, who explained, “We want to use the red panda in this movie as an adorable metaphor for the scary, unadorable, awkward, and cringey changes we go through during this age."

Turning Red

Turning Red will be available to stream on Disney+ starting March 11.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, you can also catch the film at The El Capitan Theatre during a one-week engagement from March 11-17. While you wait, enjoy this gallery from the world premiere below:

Everything to Watch and Hear During Women’s History Month 2022

By Andie Hagemann

This year, Disney celebrates Women’s History Month with a bevy of fantastic content across its streaming services and networks. From the premiere of Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red on Disney+ to streamer collections on Hulu and ESPN+ highlighting gender inclusion and trailblazing women, here is the ultimate viewing guide for content from across the worlds of Disney!

Disney+

Disney+ boasts numerous titles to celebrate Women’s History Month throughout March—and beyond. The “Female Leads” collection includes timeless titles Cruella, Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Hidden Figures, and Queen of Katwe. Plus, fan-favorite animated heroines Elena, Penny Proud, Princess Tiana, Mira, and Moana take center stage. The collection also includes hit Disney Channel Original Movies and shorts with all your favorite leading ladies.

The celebration leads up to the highly anticipated premiere of Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red on Friday, March 11, exclusively on the streaming service. The animated feature film, directed by Academy Award® winner Domee Shi, introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. And as if changes to her interests, relationships, and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda.

Later that day, go behind-the-scenes with Embrace the Panda: Making Turning Red exclusively on Disney+. The feature documentary highlights the all-women team at the helm of Turning Red as they share how they brought the heartfelt story to the screen.

The Disney+ Original movie Cheaper by the Dozen, starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff, will premiere March 18, exclusively on the streamer. A fresh take on the 2003 hit family comedy, Cheaper by the Dozen is a heartwarming story of the raucous exploits of a blended family of 12, the Bakers, as they navigate a hectic home life while simultaneously managing their family business.

Freeform

Freeform’s fan-favorite series Good Trouble returns for its first half of season four on Wednesday, March 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and available the next day on Hulu. (Subsequent episodes will be available March 16, 23, and 30). The show follows the residents of Downtown Los Angeles’ The Coterie as they juggle career, love, and the 20-something growing pains at a time in your life where your friends are your family. The series stars Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Tommy Martinez, Emma Hunton, Sherry Cola, Zuri Adele, Beau Mirchoff, Josh Pence, Priscilla Quintana, and Bryan Craig.

The fourth season of the Emmy®-nominated series grown-ish is nearly over with only four episodes remaining. It’s senior year at Cal U and the countdown is on until graduation day for Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends; tune in to see what hijinks are in store for their final days as college students. The series stars Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Emily Arlook, Jordan Buhat, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, Luka Sabbat, and Diggy Simmons. New episodes of grown-ish will air Thursdays (March 3, 10, and 17) at 10 p.m. ET/PT and the following day on Hulu, leading up to the March 24 season finale.

Single Drunk Female, from 20th Century Television—and starring Sofia Black-D’Elia and Ally Sheedy—airs new episodes on Thursday, March 3, and Thursday, March 10, at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu... leading up to the March 17 season finale. After a public flame-out at a New York media company, 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink (Black-D’Elia) is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol (Sheedy). Back in Greater Boston, Samantha restarts her life, working at the local grocery store while surrounded by all the triggers that made her drink in the first place. Confronted with remnants of her old life, including run-ins with her perfect former best friend (who is now dating her ex), Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Single Drunk Female also stars Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compère, Lily Mae Harrington, and Garrick Bernard.

FX

On International Women’s Day (March 8), FX will present a movie marathon featuring women directors and/or women in leading roles. The celebration begins with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri at 4 a.m. ET; On the Basis of Sex at 9:30 a.m. ET; Hidden Figures at 12 p.m. ET; Little Women (Broadcast Premiere) at 3 p.m. ET; and Bad Moms at 6 p.m. ET (TVMA)... and concludes with back-to-back airings of Charlie’s Angels(2019) at 8 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. ET (TVMA).

Better Things recently commenced its fifth and final chapter. This season focuses on “the road ahead” for its unconventional, unfiltered heroine, Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon)—so devoted to her life as a working actor and single mother of three that she’s left little time for that one elusive thing: herself. As she navigates three daughters; the challenges of her chosen career; and her mother’s increasing signs of aging (as well as her own), Sam embraces each moment—and each member of her family—with a fierce love, raw honesty, and biting humor. As each of the Fox women come of age into the next phase of their life, they are inspired to reevaluate themselves, learn from the past, and find their own direction. Better Things airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX, and streaming on Hulu.

FXX will celebrate with a marathon of The Simpsons on Saturday, March 12, featuring episodes highlighting women (factual or fictional) making a mark on history. Additionally, look for custom content from FX highlighting the Better Things cast, as well as Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz. Plus, two movie playlists will be curated on digital to support Women’s History Month—with one celebrating women directors and the other highlighting women in leading roles.

Hulu

Hulu celebrates women in front of and behind the camera with their Made by Her collection, a genre-spanning compilation of content that shows what women can do—as directors, writers, and creators—plus stories that were awarded the ReFrame Stamp for gender-balanced production. During Women’s History Month (and all year round), catch exceptional Hulu Originals like The Handmaid’s Tale, The Great, How I Met Your Father,Pen15, The D’Amelio Show, Little Fires Everywhere, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, and even more coming soon!

The second season of Hulu’s Dollface, which debuted last month, follows Jules (Kat Dennings) and her best friends post pandemic, post heartbreak, and heading toward turning thirty. Having successfully reunited with Madison (Brenda Song), Stella (Shay Mitchell), and Izzy (Esther Povitsky), Jules must now balance keeping their group together as they navigate work, love, and a deeper relationship with each of themselves. All ten episodes are available now.

Hulu’s limited series The Dropout tells the story of Elizabeth Holmes (Amanda Seyfried) and Theranos in an unbelievable (but true) tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. The first three episodes debut Thursday, March 3, on the streamer, with new episodes premiering weekly.

The Hulu Original Life & Beth, starring, written, directed, and executive produced by Amy Schumer launches with all 10 episodes on Friday, March 18. Schumer portrays Beth, as she journeys towards building a bolder, bigger, and more authentic life.

Hulu’s limited series The Girl From Plainville is inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s unprecedented texting-suicide case. Based on the Esquire article of the same name by Jesse Barron, the series explores the relationship of Carter (Elle Fanning) and Conrad Roy III (Colton Ryan), and the events leading to his death—and later, her conviction of involuntary manslaughter. The series launches three episodes Tuesday, March 29, with new episodes weekly.

Disney Channel

Raven’s Home, the long-running hit comedy series starring and executive produced by Raven-Symoné, returns for a fifth season on Friday, March 11, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. A spinoff of the iconic Disney Channel comedy That’s So Raven, the series follows the hilarious adventures of somewhat psychic Raven Baxter (Raven-Symoné) and her son Booker (Issac Ryan Brown), who has inherited his mom’s gift to catch glimpses of the future.

ABC

ABC celebrates Women’s History Month with a slate of stellar programming. Don’t miss new episodes of American Idol—with superstar judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan—airing Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Meanwhile, Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy debut new episodes on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and 9 p.m. ET/PT, respectively.

Binge episodes of the new hit comedy Abbott Elementary starring Quinta Brunson on Hulu. In ABC’s workplace comedy written and executive produced by Brunson, a group of dedicated, passionate teachers—and a zany principal—are brought together in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life. Though these incredible educators may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do—even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children. The show returns with new episodes on Tuesday, March 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Season two of ABC’s Big Sky follows private detectives Cassie Dewell and Jenny Hoyt as they investigate a car wreck outside of Helena, Montana. As they unravel the mystery of the accident, their worlds collide with a vicious outsider, played by Janina Gavankar, who is hellbent on finding answers. New episodes air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, or stream on Hulu.

ABC’s limited series Women of the Movement chronicles the story of Mamie Till-Mobley as she seeks justice for her son Emmett Till. Mamie, portrayed by Tony®-award winning actress Adrienne Warren, risked her life to find justice after her son Emmett was brutally murdered in the Jim Crow South of 1955. Unwilling to let Emmett’s murder disappear from the headlines, Mamie chose to bear her pain on the world’s stage, emerging as an activist for justice and igniting the civil rights movement as we know it today. All episodes are now available on Hulu.

The 94th Oscars® will be hosted by three hilarious and dynamic actresses: Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes. The ceremony will air live on ABC and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, March 27, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. And in anticipation of the celebration of the year’s best films, Emmy® Award-winning choreographers and professional dancers Derek and Julianne Hough are recreating legendary cinematic performances in the brand-new special Step Into... The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough, premieringSunday, March 20, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

ESPN+

The Women’s History Month celebration coincides with the excitement of playoff basketball as women’s college programs vie for a tournament berth. ESPN+ will exclusively stream more than 200 games during women’s college basketball Champ Week Presented by Principal, tipping off Friday, March 4.

Fans have a chance to win $10,000 by predicting conference tournament winners beginning Friday, March 4, through Selection Sunday (March 13).

ESPN+ also has a collection of series, documentaries, and specials highlighting women in sports on the streamer to continue the Women’s History Month festivities. This includes the award-winning 30 for 30 documentaries, E: 60 features, and much more!

The streamer is also the go-to for the acclaimed documentaries Breakaway and 144, which chronicle WNBA superstars and their plight on and off the court. Breakaway, directed by Rudy Valdez, explores the story of Maya Moore, who was one of the best basketball players in the world when she stepped away from the sport for a remarkable reason: to fight for a man she believed was wrongly imprisoned. In 2019, after four WNBA championships, two Olympic gold medals, a WNBA MVP award, three All-Star MVPs, and a scoring title, Moore decided to take a sabbatical from basketball at the age of 29 to devote herself full-time to working for the release of Jonathan Irons, who was wrongly convicted of burglary and assault and sentenced to 50 years in prison. The film chronicles a search for justice, and a relationship that changed the lives of two people forever. Valdez’s previous film, The Sentence—winner of the US Documentary Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and the Primetime Emmy® for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking—explored similar themes about the criminal justice system.

After the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sports, many leagues were forced to figure out how to save their seasons. The WNBA created a single site at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where 144 players across 12 teams played 147 games from July to October 2020. Directed by Lauren Stowell and Jenna Contreras, the latter who spent 62 days in the bubble, the documentary 144 explores the season dedicated to social justice and all that the players overcame to get through it: the pandemic, the demands of activism, and the rigors of an unrelenting schedule.
