On Wednesday, Season 4 of The Croods: Family Tree debuts on Hulu, and Phoebe hosts a dinner party on Everything’s Trash, which airs on Freeform. Jennifer Walter contends with an unruly client in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, launching Thursday on Disney+, and that same day, ABC’s Press Your Luck welcomes a new crew of feisty contestants. Then, two special guest stars help Daisy on Mickey Mouse Funhouse, airing Friday on Disney Channel and Disney Junior!

Everyone’s favorite prehistoric family is back with all-new hilarious and heartwarming adventures! We’re tantalizingly close to Disney+ Day on September 8—and to celebrate its impending fun, Disney+ just released a new trailer for its highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Pinocchio. Check it out, below.

Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) and treats as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Oscar nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the seagull, a new character; and Luke Evans is the Coachman. The film also features Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina; Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli; and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

First Looks at Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana at EPCOT

Speaking of World Princess Week, the good folks over at Disney Parks Blog just shared a first look at one of the incredible new attractions coming soon to EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort: Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana!

For the young and young at heart, Journey of Water—located within EPCOT’s World Nature neighborhood—will allow guests to explore and engage with water as it travels from the sky to the ocean and back again.

Walt Disney Imagineering partnered with artists and cultural consultants from Walt Disney Animation Studios to bring this experience to life and capture the splendor of the natural water cycle. The attraction is also inspired by Moana’s determination to protect her environment and her bond with water. Shapes and characters from Moana will be carved into the rocks and waterways throughout the attraction.

D23 Expo [LIVE] Livestream Schedule Announced

Well, friends, we here at D23 are as busy as ever, prepping for D23 Expo 2022—and we’re particularly excited to be livestreaming more Expo content than ever before! To that end, we just announced our livestream schedule… and it is pretty darn fantastic, if you ask us. Take a gander at what you can expect, and join us all weekend long for more fun than you can shake a lightsaber at.

Second Season of The Villains of Valley View is Coming Soon

Earlier this week, our pals at Disney Branded Television announced the second season renewal of their hilarious comedy The Villains of Valley View, which follows a family of supervillains forced to hide their powers and adopt “normalcy” in suburbia. With 10 episodes of Season 1 currently available to watch on Disney Channel and Disney+, production on Season 2 will begin this fall in Los Angeles.

When teenage supervillain Havoc (Isabella Pappas) stands up to the head of the League of Villains, her family is forced to change their identities and relocate to a sleepy Texas suburb. With the help of her effervescent new neighbor Hartley (Kayden Muller-Janssen), Havoc—going incognito as Amy—must somehow hide her superpowers and quell her villainous nature in favor of something she and the rest of her family have fought against all their lives: being normal.

In addition to Pappas and Muller-Janssen, returning for season two are series regulars Lucy Davis as Eva/Surge, James Patrick Stuart as Vic/Kraniac, Malachi Barton as Colby/Flashform, and Reed Horstmann as Jake/Chaos.

The Villains of Valley View was created by Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore, who also serve as executive producers and showrunners. Look for new episodes from Season 1 to start airing on Fridays beginning October 7 on Disney Channel!

New Trailer Celebrates Avatar’s Return to Theaters Next Month

James Cameron’s Avatar broke box-office records worldwide—and now, with its first sequel coming to theaters later this year, audience can get prepared by revisiting Pandora on the big screen in a whole new way.

Beginning September 23, Avatar will return to theaters in 4K High Dynamic Range. (Knowing Cameron’s proclivities toward state-of-the-art technology, you know that means the movie will look incredible!)

Written and directed by Academy Award® winner Cameron, Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver. Nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, the film won three—for Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects.

Avatar: The Way of Water, the first Avatar follow-up, splashes its way into your local cineplex beginning December 16.

Stars A-Plenty Sign On for Normal Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter

He’s created some of the most iconic TV shows of the 20th (and 21st) century, and he’s still going strong… so some celebrations are definitely in order! And Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel, Amy Poehler, and Octavia Spencer are now set to appear in honor of iconic television pioneer Norman Lear in ABC’s upcoming special, Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter—airing Thursday, September 22, at 9 p.m. EDT, and available the next day on Hulu.

Honoring the life and legacy of  remarkable storyteller, activist, and philanthropist Lear, the one-night-only celebration will feature intimate conversations, special performances, and surprise reunions that pay homage to the man behind some of television’s greatest stories in celebration of his 100th birthday.

“I’ve always believed music and laughter have added time to my life,” Lear recently said. “I’ve seen a lot throughout my 100 years, but I would’ve never imagined America having a front-row seat to my birthday celebration.” Additional talent and performances will be announced at a later date.

Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter is produced by Done+Dusted, and executive produced by David Jammy, Brent Miller, Garrett English, Raj Kapoor, and Eric Cook. James Merryman is set to direct.

5 Fantastic Things to Watch This Weekend Presented by State Farm®

Hear ye, hear ye… a royal celebration is coming to your TV (and assorted streaming devices) this weekend! With World Princess Week festivities underway through Saturday, August 27, keep the revelry going with a Disney Princess movie marathon highlighting these beloved characters and the courage and kindness that they inspire in their fans around the world. We present five animated feature films to binge watch on Disney+…

Cinderella (1950)—Disney+
Dreams do come true! The animated classic—now part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection and the National Film Registry—is the ultimate rags-to-riches story. Cinderella (voiced by Disney Legend Ilene Woods) is reduced to being a lowly servant to her bitter stepmother and stepsisters. However, thanks to a little “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” from her Fairy Godmother (voiced by Verna Felton), Cinderella receives beautiful ballgown and magical transport to attend a royal ball. The only catch: She must be home before the stroke of midnight.

Aladdin (1992)—Disney+
Aladdin (voiced by Scott Weinger), a street-savvy young man in Agrabah, falls in love with fiercely independent Princess Jasmine (voiced by Disney Legend Linda Larkin) after a chance meeting in the marketplace. However, an antiquated law prohibits Jasmine from marrying anyone who isn’t of royal lineage. Meanwhile, the evil vizier Jafar (voiced by Jonathan Freeman) is determined to capture the throne for himself. After Aladdin discovers a magic lamp that unleashes a powerful genie (voiced by Disney Legend Robin Williams), the pair embark on a mission to bring Al and Jasmine together and save Agrabah.

Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)—Disney+
This year, Raya makes her official debut as a Disney Princess! In the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons once lived together in harmony. However, when menacing monsters called Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, the Druun have returned, and it’s all up to a lone warrior named Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran) to find the last dragon and stop the Druun.

Pocahontas (1995)—Disney+
An adventurous Native American woman named Pocahontas (voiced by Irene Bedard) is uncertain about her future, especially with her father, Chief Powhatan (voiced by Russell Means), urging her to marry a brave warrior. However, when English settlers arrive in Jamestown, the land of the tribe of Powhatan Indians is threatened. And things become even more complicated when a romance blossoms between Pocahontas and Captain John Smith (voice by Mel Gibson).

The Princess and the Frog (2009)—Disney+
Tiana (voiced by Disney Legend Anika Noni Rose) dreams of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans… and she’s “Almost There.” However, her dreams take a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen (voiced by Bruno Campos), who has been turned into a frog by Dr. Facilier (voiced by Keith David). Naveen mistakes Tiana for a princess and kisses her in the hopes of breaking the spell, but instead, she is also transformed into a frog. The unlikely duo embarks on a journey down the Bayou to seek the help of a voodoo priestess (voiced by Jenifer Lewis).

5 Pieces of Important Intel from the Andor Cast and Crew

The fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance. The once-mighty force of the Jedi has fallen and a mysterious, powerful Emperor holds the planets in the palms of his gnarled hands. It’s a grim time for the average person trying to navigate life in the Star Wars galaxy, where Episode III ended and when the Andor series is set—with the “bad guys” winning…

When you start watching Andor on September 21 on Disney+, you’d expect the tone to be hopeless—but then, you’ve forgotten what keeps the heart of Star Wars beating. “There’s nothing cynical about this show,” showrunner Tony Gilroy maintains during the show’s recent virtual press conference. The sentiment was shared with the present cast, including Diego Luna, who plays the titular character; Genevieve O’Reilly, who plays Mon Mothma; Adria Arjona, who portrays Bix Caleen; Denise Gough, who plays Dedra Meero; and Kyle Soler, who plays Syril Karn. While details around this show have been kept as top-secret as the Death Star plans or the location of the secret Rebel Base, Gilroy and the cast passed along some key pieces of intel about the series, which sets the stage of a rebellion strong enough to end a Sith-ruled Empire.

Andor is the story of how a revolutionary is created

Something both Gilroy and Luna agree on is that while Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was about a key moment in the Rebel Alliance’s history, Andor is a map—laying out the steps of how someone can transform from an average person to a rebel, willing to risk it all in the name of hope. To Gilroy, the “walk-in” for the series was that exact idea: “We can do a story that takes [Cassian Andor] literally from his childhood origins and walk him through a five-year history of an odyssey that takes him to that place, during a revolution, during a moment in history in a place where huge events are happening, and real people are being crushed by it. The fact that we could follow somebody as an example of a revolution all the way through to the end [made it work].”

While this story is set in a galaxy far, far away, the journey of Cassian is one with roots very much here on Earth. “It’s quite relevant today,” Luna says, “to tell the story of what needs to happen for a revolutionary to emerge, to exist, to come to life.” The original Star Wars trilogy shows us a Rebellion at the height of the battle, fully organized and prepared to take down the Empire. Those who watched Star Wars with wide eyes, filled with the hope that they too could make a difference in the world might still be wondering: What’s the first step? It’s not often that an astromech droid rolls into your life with a message from a princess—most journeys to making a difference start a little differently. “That journey matters to me,” Luna says, “You know that [Cassian] started to fight when he was six years old. What does that mean, exactly? Why would a six-year-old miss his childhood and start to fight? I think that story matters.”

He continues, “If that’s possible, then anyone can do something. I always thought of Cassian as a character that has been forced to move; therefore, he brings a pain that he’s carrying, that is making him very cynical about life. [But he’s] finding a way to get the clarity of someone that suddenly starts believing, and that goes through a process of acknowledging that something in a community can give you enough strength to be useful and to bring change.”

You’re going to meet the real Mon Mothma

While much of the series is about Cassian’s journey to the Rebel Alliance, it also spends a lot of time exploring different characters who are moving other parts in this story—including a familiar face for many. O’Reilly reprises her role as Mon Mothma, which she previously played in both Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. “Each time we’ve met her, we’ve met this kind of composed, regal, dignified woman,” O’Reilly says, “who often—like with Cassian in Rogue One—sends people out on a mission.” It’s true—this Rebel Alliance leader’s most famous scenes in Rogue One and in Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi (as portrayed by Caroline Blakiston) are both centered around sending the main characters on assignments.

So, what does Mon Mothma do when she’s not telling us about complex plans and the Bothans who died to get them? “For the first time, we get to see the woman behind the role,” O’Reilly tells us, “We get to see a private face of Mon Mothma. We get to flesh out not just the senator, not just the would-be leader of a Rebel Alliance, but also the woman.” The series starts with Mon Mothma “steeped in Empire,” as O’Reilly puts it, “navigating a very male-dominated Empire with a very powerful Emperor Palpatine at the top of it. And so, we find her in a place we’ve never seen her before. We find her in a bit of a gilded cage. What I’m excited for is for us to travel that story with her.”

There will be…Girl Power?

Both O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma and Arjona’s Bix Caleen are heroines of the series, but Gough’s character, Dedra, is a powerful woman with a different alignment. “Dedra is an ISP officer. And when we meet her, she’s at the kind of low end of the ladder,” Gough says. “She’s incredibly ambitious and meticulous. What I love about playing her is that, she’s in this very male-dominated world and she’s seeing, around her, the way that people are missing what she can see is happening.”

Much like Mon Mothma, she’s steeped in the male-dominated empire. The difference is that she wants to be there: “She’s clawing her way up the ladder. And I love portraying the effect that power just has on a person, like the danger of that pursuit of power and control, regardless of gender.” Gough amends—”I mean, I do kind of love that you’re thinking, ‘Oh, go girl.’ And then you remember, she’s in a fascist organization.” She laughs, adding, “I’m getting a real thrill being able to play her. She wants to really make her mark in this industry of the Empire.”

They created a fully immersive world 

If you’re going to tell a story about intergalactic espionage and revolutions, it helps to have an out-of-this-world set to explore. “I remember coming to one of the sets, the town that had been built by the production designers, and the set units and every little thing had been thought of. Every cabinet had, I don’t know, a whole life inside,” recalls Soler.

Airona agrees: “I remember the first day, walking around and kind of getting lost in it and exploring. And it was so cool.” A specific memory stands out to her that really illustrates the sheer size of the whole thing; as she explains, “There was one day where one of our directors told me to run, and I was like, ‘Well, where do you want me to run?’

He’s like, ‘Anywhere you want!’ ‘Cause everything was filmable. If I would go left, we could’ve filmed there; if I would go right, we could’ve filmed there. He could basically point the camera either left or right, and that was kind of cool.”

Andor explores the “gray areas” of Star Wars

Throughout Star Wars’ stories, audiences are left to contemplate good and evil; the light and the dark. Even in films like Rogue One, where there are no Jedi or Force users among the protagonists, there is still a steadfast belief in the light side of the Force. But what about that in-between area, that’s not quite light and not quite dark? “[Cassian] spends much of his time in the complexity of the gray areas,” Luna explains, “In the contradictions of characters. And that’s where I think this real thing comes out of it. Because it’s full of that experience, of just being someone trying to live your life and having to make choices. This is a show about people, about real people, you know? It’s very dark times in the galaxy; there are no Jedi around. These people are having to articulate a reaction to oppression, and it’s the most grounded kind of Star Wars you’ll get.”

In many ways, it’s a story about us here on Earth. We don’t have Jedi or Sith or any kind of Force to propel us, so how do we rebel? As Luna says, “It is a show about us—it is a show about these people finding the strength to come up with a reaction and to change and bring change to their reality.” It’s a story he hopes everyone will want to see: “I thought that story matters too much. It’s [something] I would like to tell my kids, and to my friends.”

In celebration of Disney+ Day on Thursday, September 8, fans will be able to stream new library and Original titles including Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder, Cars on the Road, Dancing with the Stars: The Pros’ Most Memorable Dances, Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory, Growing Up, Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return, Pinocchio, Remembering, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Tierra Incógnita, as well as Frozen and Frozen 2 Sing-Alongs, and Welcome to the Club, a new short from The Simpsons. New episodes of Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law debut on Thursdays, so that show also joins the Disney+ Day lineup.

Dancing with the Stars: The Pros’ Most Memorable Dances, hosted by Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, Cheryl Burke, and Brandon Armstrong, is a look back on the 20 most memorable dances from 30 seasons of Dancing with the Stars, chosen by the Pro Dancers. The special leads up to live Season 31 premiere of Dancing With the Stars on Monday, September 19, hosted by Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro. The celebrity couples will be judged by Len Goodman, Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli.

Where do ideas come from—and where do they go when they’re forgotten? These central questions are brought to life in Remembering, an original short film by Elijah Allan-Blitz. The story follows a writer (Larson) who loses a very important idea when her phone rings. Personified as golden light, this lost idea is found by the writer’s inner child, who takes it on a journey through The World of Imagination. It is easy to lose touch with this world, but each of us can be inspired by it—if we just remember. With a first-of-its-kind companion Augmented Reality app, subscribers can interact with the story by scanning the TV, extending The World of Imagination into their living rooms.

Tierra Incógnita follows Eric Dalaras (Pedro Maurizi), a teenager who discovers a hair-raising world while searching for the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of his parents eight years prior. Raised alongside his sister Uma (Mora Fisz) by his maternal grandparents, Eric decides to run away from home and go back to his childhood town, Cabo Qwert, to find answers where his parents were last seen: the Tierra Incógnita horror theme park. With his friends, his sister, and his aunt, Eric must overcome his fears in order to find answers and solve the mystery in a dark and unfamiliar world.

After Disney+ Day, a new episode of the experimental, innovative program Short Circuit will debut on Wednesday, September 14. In “Reflect,” directed by Hillary Bradfield, a ballet dancer battles her own reflection, overcoming doubt and fear by channeling her inner strength, grace, and power.

Premiering with three episodes on Wednesday, September 21, Andor—an Original series from Lucasfilm—will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy. It chronicles the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue—one in which Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) will embark on the path to one day become a rebel hero.

Executive produced by James Cameron and narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, National Geographic’s Super/Natural utilizes the latest scientific innovations and filmmaking technology to reveal the secret powers and super-senses of the world’s most extraordinary animals. Super/Natural invites viewers to see and hear beyond normal human perception to experience the natural world as a specific species does, from seeing flowers in bee-vision to soaring 120 yards with glow-in-the-dark squirrels.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers returns for Season 2 on Wednesday, September 28. After winning back the Mighty Ducks team name, the players and coach Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) sign up to attend a summer hockey institute in California run by Colin Cole (Josh Duhamel), a charming yet hardcore former NHL player. After Coach Cole tells the team they may not be a good “fit” for his program, they get fired up to prove him wrong—even though a mysterious camper warns them not to stay.

Closing out the month on Friday, September 30, is the live-action comedy Hocus Pocus 2, a haunting sequel to the 1993 Halloween cult classic. It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century Sanderson sisters, and they want revenge. Now it is up to three high school students to stop the witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.

Throughout the month, Disney+ will add dozens of titles to its library, including The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Call of the Wild, Edge of the Unknown with Jimmy Chin (Season 1), Life Below Zero: Northern Territories(Season 2), Spies in Disguise, and more, as well as new weekly episodes of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
