Live action Walt Disney experimented with live action along with animation in The Reluctant Dragon, Song of the South, and So Dear to My Heart, but his first completely live-action film was Treasure Island (1950). He realized that the financial health of the company would be aided by a program that included live-action features, since animated features took so long to make thus tying up funds for years.
