On Saturday morning, September 24, more than 130 D23 Members and guests gathered at Disney Springs for two very special events!
The morning began at UNIQLO at Disney Springs Town Center, where D23 Members enjoyed a delicious hot breakfast and exclusive shopping time at the newly opened store, where they received a special 10 percent discount.
Then, guests gathered at AMC Disney Springs to celebrate 45 bewitching years of Bedknobs and Broomsticks! Before screening the classic 1971 musical fantasy, guests enjoyed a behind-the-scenes historical presentation by D23’s Steven Vagnini, who shared rare behind-the-scenes photography and artwork that revealed the inside story of the film’s decade-long development.
After the screening, D23 Members discovered the many connections between Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Walt Disney World Resort. Who knew that actor Ian Weighill (Charlie Rawlins) later worked at the United Kingdom pavilion at Epcot?
And after looking back at King Leonidas’s former role in the Main Street Electrical Parade, D23 Members were surprised to learn that Disney’s “original lion king” was on hand for a special meeting and photos with D23 Members!
As a special gift, each guest received an exclusive pin of the famous Star of Astoroth—which features the five mystic words of Substitutiary Locomotion—as well as a complimentary tote from UNIQLO. This event could only be described as “Treguna, Mekoides, and Trecorum Satis Dee-23!”
