Mother’s Courage, A: The Mary Thomas Story (television) Two-part television show; aired on December 3 and 10, 1989. Directed by John Patterson. The story of Detroit Pistons basketball star, Isiah Thomas, and the struggles of Isiah’s mother in raising him. It takes all her power, and the death of a buddy, to convince him that he should get out of the local street gang. She works hard to put him through school, bullying him not to quit like his older brother did. When he becomes athlete of the year, he publicly thanks his mother for her never-ending confidence in him. Emmy Award winner for Individual Achievement for a Children’s Program.
