7 Marvel Live-Action Series Coming to Disney+ March 16

By Zach Johnson

More Marvel is always a good thing! On Wednesday, March 16, Disney+ will add more Marvel live-action series titles to its expansive content offering in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand with the addition of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher, plus Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the U.S., giving fans access to more from the Marvel collection, all in one place. With the addition of these titles, Disney+ will concurrently release an update to its Parental Controls in the U.S. that will prompt all subscribers to update their settings.

“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place,” said Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming. “We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family.”

These Marvel series will be available across all other Disney+ markets later this year.

The dedicated Marvel brand page on Disney+ already houses the largest Marvel collection, with hundreds of hours of movies and shows, which includes films such as Iron Man (2008) and Eternals (2021), series such as WandaVision (2021) and Hawkeye (2021), and other movie franchises like X-Men, plus documentaries, shorts, and specials.

When opening Disney+ for the first time on or after March 16, all subscribers in the U.S. will be prompted to update their Parental Controls. This includes the option to select content ratings restrictions for each profile as well as to add a PIN to lock profiles. Those who choose to keep their settings the same will continue to enjoy Disney+ as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment, with the option to make changes at any time under Profile settings.

All The Celebrity Cameos in Disney’s Free Guy

Imagine waking up one day and finding out your whole life was actually just a simulation inside of a video game. All your friends are characters and you don’t have any actual control over your life. Well, that is exactly what happens to Ryan Reynolds’ character Guy, in Disney’s latest action-comedy Free Guy.

In celebration of Free Guy hitting Disney+, we have compiled a list with several of the celebrities involved in the film. Spoiler alert: there’s a lot!

1. Alex Trebek (as himself)
That’s right! The late Jeopardy! host makes an appearance in the movie filmed shortly before his passing. In a short scene, Trebek quizzes his contestants on Reynold’s character, Guy, in the video game.

2. Chris Evans (as himself)
When Guy finds himself in a strenuating circumstance, he must use Captain America’s shield in an effort to protect himself and who better to make a quick appearance than Captain America himself, Chris Evans!

3. Channing Tatum (as Revenjamin Buttons)
Revenjamin Buttons is a game avatar created by gamer Keith (played by Matthew Cardarople). In his role, Tatum is not only hilarious in his dialogue with Reynolds, but his dance moves are iconic despite his tough-guy appearance.

4. Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson (voice of the bank robber)
If you thought that the bank robber sounded familiar, you were right! Johnson voices the character, controlled by two young girls, in this short scene.

5. Tina Fey (as Keith’s mother)
While you never really see her face, Fey still makes a humorous appearance as the voice of gamer Keith’s mother.

6. Hugh Jackman (voice of masked avatar)
Yep, even Hugh Jackman had a role in Free Guy. The Greatest Showman star was keeping some very important information up his character’s sleeve impertinent to the storyline.

7. John Krasinski (voice of silhouetted gamer)
Only recognizable by his voice, Krasinski makes a brief appearance as a gamer being anonymously interviewed about his avatar in the Free City game.

Go stream Free Guy on Disney+ today and see if you can spot all the celebrities!

Your Burning Secrets of Sulphur Springs Season 2 Questions Answered

By Zach Johnson

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Secrets of Sulphur Springs.

If your jaw is still on the floor after watching “Time Is Not on Our Side,” the exhilarating season two finale of Disney Branded Television’s Secrets of Sulphur Springs, you’re not alone! It ended on a spectacular cliffhanger, with Griffin (Preston Oliver) stuck in the future, Savannah (Elle Graham) stuck in the present, and Harper (Kyliegh Curran) stuck in another precarious situation. To make sense of it all, D23 interviewed two of the series’ executive producers, creator Tracey Thomson and showrunner Charles Pratt Jr., to solve a few lingering mysteries—and to get a hint of what to expect when the series returns for its just-announced third season.

D23: Why did Griffin and Harper pull back when they were about to kiss in episode seven (“Check-Out Time”)? Another three weeks passed before they spoke about it, and Griffin suggested that they didn’t want things to change… but he didn’t seem too sure about that.
Charles Pratt Jr. (CPJ): It was a spontaneous moment. They were wrapped up in the joy of freeing the ghost and reaching that moment. They’re in the moonlight, they’ve been through a very profound experience, and they look at each other… We’ve done little things all along, from the very first episode, to tease that could this be something more than just a friendship.

D23: Right after their almost-kiss, we saw the door to The Tremont swing open. Was that a new ghost entering the hotel—or was that the same ghost they had just freed coming back?
CPJ: Definitely a new ghost.

D23: Is the ghost a character we’ve met before, or is it someone new?
Tracey Thomson (TT): No hints! [Laughs]

D23: Why did Griffin travel to 2024 without Harper in the finale?
TT: Griffin knew the crystal was cracking. They warned Savannah that they only might have a few more trips to go back through the portal, and he needs to know what’s going to happen to himself in the future and what Harper’s vision meant. Plus, he doesn’t want to put Harper in danger of getting trapped. So, he goes without her. It’s an act of caring; he cares too much about Harper to let her get trapped again. She just came back from being trapped in the ‘30s.

D23: After Griffin joins Sam (Eugene Byrd) in the future, the crystal cracks. Does that make it impossible for them to return to their timelines? Also, what’s significant about the year 2024?
TT: The kids are not going to let Griffin be stuck in the future. They’re going to do everything in their power to bring him home. And Savannah is stuck in the present; she needs to go back home as well. Working together, all the kids will try to find a way. And Sam picked the year 2024 because he’s looking for a cure for the disease that killed his mother—last year’s ghost.

D23: Savanah came to check in on what was happening in the present timeline for Griffin and Harper, and then she had two near run-ins with Ben (Josh Braaten). He sort of recognized her during the party, even though she was wearing a mask. And then at the very end of the finale, when he caught Harper in the hatch, Savannah managed to hide from him. Can you tease a little bit about what’s going to happen next? If Ben finds Savannah, he’s obviously going to recognize her, given that her disappearance in the ‘90s was such a big part of his childhood.
TT: I think those are all great questions. What would happen if Ben found her? You have to remember that Ben doesn’t know about time travel. So, what he’s grappling with is, ‘This girl seems familiar to me.’ But he isn’t putting A and B together and asking, ‘Could that be Savannah?’ He isn’t thinking like that. But yeah… Harper’s going to have to do some fast talking! It will be fun to explore what will Ben do if he finds out the truth about Savannah?
CPJ: And what happens if he actually does find the tunnel and the hatch?

D23: Ben isn’t fully aware of what’s going on, but during season two, we saw Sarah (Kelly Frye) talking to the ghost in the mirror before it shattered; Ben yelled at the ghost in frustration; Jess (DiAndra Lyle) noticed something strange bubbling up in the springs. In season three, are the adults going to be as active as the kids have been in trying to solve some of these mysteries—whether or not they realize ghosts and time travel are involved?
CPJ: Definitely. We’re going to tie them in even more than we ever have. They obviously all believe in ghosts by now. So, if there’s a really nasty ghost haunting The Tremont, they all have to deal with it—while at the same time opening a restaurant and running the hotel. This ghost is going to threaten the entire operation, and their livelihoods will depend on going back into the past to find out who this ghost is, where they came from, and what they want.

D23: In the finale, Griffin and Harper discovered Mrs. Barker is actually Savannah as an adult. That seems to indicate that at some point, Savannah makes it back to her original timeline…
TT: You would think, yes. We thought it was interesting to explore what happened to Savannah as she grew up in the ‘60s. Did she stay in Sulphur Springs? Where would she be now? We love the little nod to season one; she recognizes the kids and uses their code names.

D23: We also need to talk about what’s going on in room 205. We’ve seen the mist and the mud creeping through the door, and it almost looks like something’s trying to push through.
CPJ: The idea is, one ghost checks out and another ghost checks in. Again, this is a different ghost. The last ghost was mischievous and angry about certain things and she was trying to right a wrong. This ghost seems to be different. Maybe this ghost has been trying to get into this house, but the other ghost had to leave before this ghost could invade. The jeopardy is going to be turned up next season as you discover what this ghost is up to and what this ghost wants. This is not an innocent ghost; this is a much scarier ghost with nefarious plans.

D23: Is there anything else you want fans to know as you work on season three?
TT: I think we just want to thank them for watching. They’ve been on this ride with us, and they keep coming back for more, which is great. And we can’t wait to film the new season!

Both seasons of Secrets of Sulphur Springs are available to stream now on Disney+.

Disney Wish Is Officially Afloat—Plus More in News Briefs

By Courtney Potter

Disney Cruise Line’s Latest Ship is Now Afloat!

Our friends at Disney Cruise Line recently celebrated a momentous occasion, known as “float out.” During this special event, the brand-new Disney Wish made a stunning exit from its enclosed building dock, where it had been undergoing its truly incredible construction.

As you can see in the clip above, folks from Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Cruise Line celebrated the occasion in Disney style—complete with fireworks, music, and a special appearance by Captain Minnie Mouse herself! Interestingly enough, it took around five hours to flood the building dock, followed by a full 90-minute exit as the Disney Wish sailed out—with only three feet of clearance on either side. The reveal featured the ship’s completed exterior, of course… but it was also the big debut of its signature stern character: Rapunzel! You can also catch a glimpse of the first Disney attraction at sea, AquaMouse, soaring over the upper decks.

The Disney Wish will remain alongside the pier for several more weeks before its next milestone, when it will be conveyed stern-first (that sounds quite official, right?) down the River Ems to the port of Eemshaven, Netherlands. In the meantime, construction and interior outfitting will continue… all to get the ship primed and ready for its big sailing debut this summer!

Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more updates on the Disney Wish!

Ice Age: Scrat Tales features the voice talent of Chris Wedges as Scrat and Karl Wahlgren as Baby Scrat. The six shorts include “Nuts About You,” where Scrat meets his son Baby Scrat and experiences the pure joy of being a new parent; “LoFi Scrat Beats to Sleep/Chill to,” in which Scrat pounds out a percussive lullaby to get a crying Baby Scrat to fall asleep; and “X’s and Uh-O’s,” where Scrat demonstrates for Baby Scrat how to plant The Acorn… but it’s Scrat himself who’s really being taught a lesson!

Disney+ Announces Second Season of Launchpad

The return of Launchpad is now just over the horizon… Disney+ has just revealed the films for the second season of Disney Studios Content’s acclaimed series—a collection of live-action shorts from a new generation of dynamic filmmakers.

Building on the success of its debut season, additional participants were added this time around—with Launchpad’s second season featuring six writers, five directors, and one director/writer, all from underrepresented backgrounds. The goal of the program is to diversify the types of stories that are being told and to give access to those who have historically not had it. Selected from almost 2,000 applicants, these filmmakers will have the opportunity to share their creative visions and show audiences what it means to be seen. Each filmmaker is paired with a senior Disney creative executive who guides them through a program that educates and supports their short’s efforts. Inspired by life’s journey, this season’s shorts are based on the theme “Connection.”

Look for the second season of Launchpad to debut on the streaming service in 2023. And for a complete rundown of the filmmakers, as well as this season’s semi-finalists and finalists, visit launchpad.disney.com.
