Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

A Pirate’s Life for Them—Meet the Characters of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

By Jocelyn Buhlman

On May 26, we join Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) for his latest swashbuckling adventure in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. This time, Jack is on the run from deadly ghost sailors and on the search for the mythical Trident of Poseidon. Jack’s going to need some assistance, and fortunately he has allies in the newcomers Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) and Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario). So, get ready to meet some old sea dogs, the new crew, and the mysterious ghost pirates on the hunt for Jack Sparrow!

Jack Sparrow

Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp)
He’s either the worst pirate we’ve ever seen or the greatest… but either way, Captain Jack Sparrow is a legendary buccaneer with the charm, smarts, and savvy to get himself out of any bind… well, almost any. His beloved ship, the Black Pearl, is trapped in a bottle, and the ghostly Captain Salazar is hot on Jack’s trail. With the help of some old acquaintances and a couple of new crew members, Jack is in for the adventure of his life!

Captain Armando Salazar

Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem)
Dead men tell no tales, and Captain Salazar is here to make sure that stays true. Once the greatest pirate hunter who ever roamed the seas, the ghostly Captain Salazar commands a crew of undead soldiers on his ship, Silent Mary. Although now a ghost, he still has the same passion as he did when he was alive: Destroy all pirates—and Captain Jack Sparrow is next on his list!

Henry Turner

Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites)
As a young sailor in the British Navy, Henry is on the search to for the Trident of Poseidon to free his father from a curse. It’s an important quest, especially since Henry is the son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, two of Jack’s closest allies. Captain Jack may be the only one to help Henry find what he needs, and between Henry’s knowledge and Jack’s savvy, they’re determined to complete their quest.

Carina Smyth

Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario)
While others may only have eyes for the seas, Carina keeps her focus on the stars. A woman ahead of her time, Carina’s interests in astronomy, time, and mathematics may cause others to think her a witch, but she doesn’t care. With her bold spirit and keen intellect, Carina wishes not only to prove herself as a legitimate scientist, but also to unravel a great mystery about where she came from, who her unknown father was, and who she truly is meant to be.

Mr. Joshamee Gibbs

Gibbs (Kevin R. McNally)
Of course, Captain Jack wouldn’t go on an adventure without his trusty crew by his side. Gibbs can’t help but get involved in whatever trouble Jack creates. A superstitious deckhand with muted impatience for authority, Gibbs always sails alongside Jack, no matter how strange or spooky the quest.

Hector Barbossa

Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush)
The cunning Captain Barbossa returns again, still a master manipulator and as shrewd a bargainer as ever. Now he’s the captain of Blackbeard’s former boat, Queen Anne’s Revenge,  and with his trusty monkey, Jack, on his shoulder, he’s ready to lie, cheat, and swindle his way into new treasure. What will this master pirate do with a pirate hunter on the rise?

Will Turner

Will Turner (Orlando Bloom)
When we last saw Will Turner, he had become so much more than a simple blacksmith’s apprentice. In fact, he has become the cursed captain of his own supernatural crew—on the deck of the Flying Dutchman! Will returns in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, although we aren’t sure yet where his fate lies.

Elizabeth Swann

Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley)
We don’t know much about what Elizabeth has been up to since the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, but we do know one thing: She certainly hasn’t been asking about Captain Jack Sparrow. See her in action in this new clip from Oh My Disney!
