Summer of Soul (…or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)—Sunday, February 20, at 8 p.m. ET, on ABC
We heard it through the grapevine that this Oscar®-nominated and award-winning documentary is making its broadcast television debut! In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson has created a documentary centered around The Harlem Music Festival—an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture, and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just 100 miles south of Woodstock, the festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was largely forgotten and never seen by the public—until now. Summer of Soul is also available to stream on Hulu and Disney+.
