On this day in 1952, the Donald Duck cartoon short Trick or Treat made its de-boo in theaters. The featurette’s musical centerpiece, the catchy “Trick or Treat” song, was made into a record album narrated by Ginny Tyler. Here’s the film’s storyline as described on the record album’s packaging: “It’s Halloween night and all sorts of ghosts, goblins and witches are out ringing door bells, and saying, ‘Trick or Treat.’ But, is that creature at the front door just a kid dressed up, or could it be a real witch? Donald Duck didn’t believe in witches, ghosts and goblins, and so he would play nasty tricks on all the trick or treaters who came to his front door. That is until one Halloween night when he met Hazel, Witch Hazel, that is. With the help of Donald’s three nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, who had just been tricked by their Uncle Donald, Hazel made this Halloween night one he would never forget.”
