Disneyland’s Pinocchio’s Daring Journey attraction is inspired by the film Pinocchio. Snow White’s Scary Adventures is inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. But what about the Matterhorn Bobsleds? There’s no doubt it was inspired by the actual mountain in the Swiss Alps, but also by the movie released on this day in 1959, Third Man on the Mountain. The film takes place in 1865 and tells the story of Rudi Matt, who tries to climb the unconquered Citadel (which in reality is the Matterhorn), the very mountain on which his father was killed. The movie came about after Walt Disney took his family to Switzerland on a summer vacation, inspiring both the movie and the Disneyland attraction. That should summit up for today.
