The world premiere of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was held on this day in 2005. London’s Royal Albert Hall was decked out to look like an ice palace, complete with artificial snow and iced pillars. The icy blue carpet replaced the traditional red carpet for the celebrities and luminaries that attended, including Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. At the time, 16-year-old Anna Popplewell, who plays the sensible Susan in the film, described the premiere as “amazing, incredible and overwhelming,” and admitted that she had practiced curtsying for the moment when she would meet Prince Charles.
