Jack King, who directed Sleepy Time Donald, the 69th Donald Duck cartoon, began his animating career in 1920, eventually making his way to the West Coast and joining the Disney Studio in 1929. He stayed for four years before jumping to Leon Schlesinger Productions, makers of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies for Warner Bros., before returning to Disney in 1936 when Walt gave him the opportunity to direct cartoons in color. He directed many classic Donald Duck cartoons, such as the classic Sleepy Time Donald, which hilariously shows Donald sleepwalking his way through a night of unseen adventures — with Minnie at his side. Along the way, he proposes to a tree branch, enters and escapes a lion’s mouth, crosses streets, and walks up walls. King retired the following year.
