Take a “paws” to learn about the breakout character from the 1955 Disney animated classic, Lady and the Tramp, who was nameless in the film. Scamp was born to Lady and Tramp at the end of the story. The puppy who closely resembled his father was first seen in comic strips on this day in 1955 in Disney’s Treasury of Classic Tales, a strip that began in 1952 to help promote Disney’s current film releases. The Lady and the Tramp installment finds Trusty and Jock visiting with Tramp and Lady, or “Mrs. Tramp” as she corrects them, and meeting their puppies. The sole male scruffy puppy went on to be featured in his own daily comic strip beginning in October of that same year and was officially christened “Scamp.”
