Pluto at the Zoo, the 12th Pluto cartoon short of the 48 that were made, was released on this day in 1942. The charming cartoon shows Pluto, chomping on a small bone and heading into a zoo. When he comes across a dozing lion, our lovable canine suddenly has a bone to pick with him. That’s because the sleeping lion’s bone is much larger than his, so he attempts to steal it, only to find a plethora of other animal obstacles preventing his escape. By the end, Pluto inadvertently finds himself once again in the lion cage, where he ultimately decides it is best to be happy with his mini bone and that the old adage about “let sleeping dogs lie” certainly applies to lions as well.
