In 1950, Walt Disney gave a Christmas present to viewers across the nation in the form of his first television show ever, One Hour in Wonderland. Ventriloquist Edger Bergen and his lovable dummy creations, Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd, head to Walt’s Studio for a party with Walt and young Kathryn Beaumont, the voice of the lead character in the upcoming Alice in Wonderland. With a large group assembled, including Bobby Driscoll and Walt’s daughters, Sharon and Diane, Walt summons the Magic Mirror (portrayed by Hans Conried), who helps entertain the guests by displaying clips from Disney’s films and cartoon shorts. The mirror also showcases a special performance by the popular Firehouse Five Plus Two Dixieland band, comprised of Disney artists, who perform a swinging rendition of “Jingle Bells.” On behalf of all of us here at D23, we wish you a very merry unbirthday…and Christmas, too!
