Donald Duck in Don Donald

Don Donald is Released

Ever since his first cartoon, Mickey Mouse had his sweetheart Minnie by his side, but on this day in 1937 it was time for Donald Duck to finally have one, too. Daisy Duck made her debut in the Donald Duck cartoon short Don Donald, although she was known as Donna Duck and would not be known as Daisy until 1940. Donald was immediately vying for her affection, this time in South America. Although Don Donald is officially the second Donald Duck cartoon short, this and the 1936 short Donald and Pluto, were both originally released as Mickey Mouse cartoons, despite the fact that Mickey never appeared in either. In her debut, “Donna” portrays a lovely señorita, with a voice not unlike Donald’s and a temper to match. Even by the film’s end, it was evident Donald would have his work cut out for him in the years to come if he were to ever win her heart.
