On this day in 1976, the hour-long television special Christmas in Disneyland helped get television viewers into the Christmas spirit. The lovable actor Art Carney, best known for his 18-year role as Ed Norton on the classic series The Honeymooners, portrayed a Scrooge-like character who visits Disneyland with his two grandchildren. With Disneyland transformed into a winter wonderland and a host of characters, including Mickey and Minnie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, popular entertainers Sandy Duncan and Glen Campbell and a candlelight choir of more than 500 persons performing on Main Street, U.S.A., it’s hard to stay crabby, and soon the crotchety old man becomes a very merry grandfather with a renewed belief in the holiday spirit.
