Imagineers have penned some pretty extraordinary stories for Disney theme parks, and the legend they brought to life at Walt Disney World’s Blizzard Beach is certainly one of their most fanciful. The story is about a freak winter storm in Florida, which blanketed a 66-acre area with snow and gave birth to the Sunshine State’s first ski resort. But when temperatures returned to normal, the powdery snow turned to slippery slush, and a water park wonderland was created. The Resort’s slalom courses, bobsled, and toboggan runs were turned into downhill waterslides, but the humidity and scorching sun couldn’t melt all of the snow and slush that give the park its distinguishing visual characteristic. Now, you can get your feet wet in this winter/summer play land by taking a thrilling plunge down the slopes, er, slides, that cascade down from the top of Mt. Gushmore — the name of the 120-feet-high mountain peak that towers over the center of Blizzard Beach. Summit Plummet, Shush Gusher, Teamboat Springs, Toboggan Racer, Snow Stormers, Runoff Rapids, Tike’s Peak, Melt-Away Bay, and Cross-Country Creek are some of the fastest, tallest, and detailed water slides you’ll find anywhere in the world.
