On this day in 1960, television viewers learned that making the classic Disney film Swiss Family Robinson wasn’t always paradise. Hosted by the film’s stars, John Mills, Dorothy McGuire, and Janet Munro, viewers traveled behind the scenes to the West Indian Island of Tobago in “Escape to Paradise” for this episode of the Walt Disney Presents television series. The second portion of the episode featured the Academy Award®-winning True-Life Adventure Water Birds. One of the highlights of the episode was the new song that was penned by Disney’s famed songwriting team the Sherman Brothers. The “Swiss Family Robinson Calypso” accompanied the behind-the-scenes portion of the program with lyrics including, “Yes, my friends, we had a lot of fun making Swiss Family Robinson. Yes, my friends, we had a lot of fun spending Walt Disney’s five mill-i-on.”
