Centuries after the events of the No. 1 New York Times bestseller Wings of Starlight, two fairies must confront a dangerous magic—and their growing feelings for each other—to save their home in the Winter Woods of Pixie Hollow.

When frost fairy Periwinkle ventures too close to the forbidden border where Spring meets the Winter Woods, she stumbles upon a fragment of a lost magic... and for the first time, begins to dream. At first, Periwinkle’s dreams are sweet, but they soon twist into terrifying visions: the Pixie Dust Tree—the life source of all Pixie Hollow—is in peril.

Her worst fears are confirmed when a mysterious stranger, a sparrow man named Weaver, appears. He knows two secrets: that Periwinkle has been dreaming, and that the Winter Woods faces grave danger.

Reluctantly, Periwinkle joins Weaver on a journey through the uncharted heart of the Winter Woods. But dreams are dangerous, and as hers begin to unravel, she starts questioning everything she thought she knew.

Return to Pixie Hollow in this thrilling new story set centuries after Wings of Starlight, arriving August 4, 2026. Read on for an exclusive Q&A with the author, Anna Bright!

D23: What inspired you to write Wings of Reverie and explore this story in the world of Pixie Hollow? Were there particular inspirations—books, myths, or personal experiences—that shaped the story and characters?

Anna Bright (AB): At the core of the story is the shape of the relationship between Periwinkle, a well-liked frost-talent, and Weaver, an outsider with a secret talent. The more I worked through that, the more I could feel a somewhat unexpected influence creeping in: coming-of-age movies and romcoms from the ’80s to ’00s. I always loved the dynamic between a popular character with hidden depths and an “outcast” character, especially if they realize they’ve been the ones pushing people away all along. Once that dynamic was in my head, I couldn’t conceive of their relationship any other way!

Also, I’m obsessed with fiber arts and slow fashion, and is there any fashion more intentional and handmade than what comes out of a Pixie Hollow craft-talent studio?

D23: Without giving away too much, are there any scenes or moments in the book that you’re especially excited for readers to discover?

AB: Oh, there are so many. It was really exciting building out the Hall of Winter, which we only get to see in glimpses in Secret of the Wings, and I loved creating more time for Periwinkle with Gliss and Spike. But I think my favorite scene is the night Periwinkle goes to find Weaver at his workshop to give him a piece of her mind, and . . . well. The situation certainly evolves!

D23: What themes or messages do you hope readers take away from Periwinkle and Weaver’s journey?

AB: These two go through so much in this book! There is a lot of talk about the nature of forgiveness, and that healing can’t come while you’re holding on to bitterness. I hope readers find themselves thinking about that. There’s also a lot about being brave enough to examine your beliefs and your fears, and about taking the time to really see people before you judge them.

D23: For readers who are new to Pixie Hollow or the Wings series, what should they know about this world before diving into Wings of Reverie?

AB: What a great question. These (IMO) are the high spots:

  • The fairies of Never Land live in Pixie Hollow, which is divided into four quarters. In each of those quarters, the weather is eternally one season.
  • The fairies, in turn, bring each of the seasons to the Mainland (where we humans live).
  • Upon their arrival in Pixie Hollow, every fairy goes through the talent-choosing ceremony. There are animal-talents, tinker-talents, fast-flying-talents, nature-talents (including, in the Winter Woods, frost-talents)—you get the picture. Some talents, like dream-talents, have been lost. (And as we learn in this book, some lost talents can return!)
  • Periwinkle (a frost-talent) and Weaver (a “craft-talent”), the main characters in Wings of Reverie, live in the Winter Woods, and Winter Fairies can’t enter the warm seasons.
