Hollywood, 1939. Amidst the glitz and the glitter of a bustling young movie talent at the height of its golden age, a select group of D23 Members took a late-night visit to the Hollywood Tower Hotel.
During our very special Behind-the-Scenes experience, guests were invited to “check in” for a party at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror they won’t soon forget. Dozens of hotel “workers” greeted members as they were able to “cross the ropes”—checking in at the reception desk of the hotel. Each was handed a collectible key to their room—D23, of course!—before journeying into the “library” and the great beyond.
Upon returning to our dimension, guests were given a Hollywood Tower Hotel bellhop hat and were able to take a photo with Mark Silverman, the Rod Serling voice sound-alike whose dulcet tones send shivers up the spines of guests who ride the attraction.
Then it was over to the Sunset Showcase for a midnight party with mini Brown Derby-style Cobb salads, cheeseburger “spring rolls,” delicious cupcakes, and more. It was there that D23’s Kristin Rodack interviewed Mark, who talked about his audition experience—and how he likes to freak out people when riding elevators by using his Rod Serling voice! Then it was revealed that the hotel “staff” were actually all Walt Disney Imagineers! Each one had—or still has—a connection to the hotel, and Imagineers including Gary Landrum, Jason Grandt, and Diego Parras shared some of their favorite Tower stories with the party.
Following the soiree, guests were invited for a “goodnight kiss” (or rather, a goodnight scream!) with one final ride on the Tower before descending into the night.
Before we dropped in to another dimension, D23 explored Epcot during Sip & Scream. See how we celebrated the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival here.
