Mickey’s Parrot Premieres

In Mickey’s Parrot, a talking parrot shows up at the home of Mickey Mouse and Pluto just as the two hear a radio report of an escaped killer. Hearing the parrot’s voice, the dashing duo assumes it is the criminal’s voice they are hearing. It isn’t until the cartoon ends that they realize it was all just a bird and there is nothing to worry about. Talking parrots with a complete vocabulary have recurred throughout Disney’s history.

Yo ho, a parrot’s life for me.

A few of them include the talking parrot umbrella handle in Mary Poppins, the harmonic singing macaws of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, the irritating yet laughable Iago in the animated feature Aladdin, and, if you listen closely in the Pirates of the Caribbean attractions, you can hear a parrot singing, “Yo ho, a parrot’s life for me.”
