The Village Smithy is Released

The Village Smithy is not another name for Dave Smith, founder of the Walt Disney Archives… it’s the name of the blacksmith in a village, a person who works with iron to create useful items such as horseshoes or wagon wheels. On this day in 1942, The Village Smithy cartoon short was released with Donald Duck in the title role. Poor Donald. Everyone always seems to be against him, even, as in this film, a wagon wheel that bedevils Donald as he tries to create a rim for it. With little success, he moves on to his next task, shoeing Jenny the donkey. As you might suspect, Donald is unable to hammer his tasks out successfully.
