Bonjour! On this day, 21 Octobre in 1934, a magazine dedicated to Mickey (pronounced Me-KAY), the world’s most famous “souris,” was first published in France. To this day, every Mercredi—that’s Wednesday in English—readers look forward to the newest issue of Le Journal de Mickey. With paper shortages and other limited resources due to World War II, the “final” issue was published in July 1944. But you can’t keep a good thing down, and in 1952, the magazine was given new life, and new issues are still in circulation today. The comic magazine is full of editorials on local and international topics, letters from readers and, of course, comics. With imported comics from the U.S. and other countries, along with original French comics of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Le Journal de Mickey has become a part of the French tradition. Au revoir!
