When Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, A New Musical premiered on Broadway it scored the biggest box office opening in the 80 year history of the Palace Theatre. But before it got to that point, the celebrated production first took to the stage for a test run in Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars. The historic theater was founded in 1968 by Frank M. Young, who guided the non-profit organization to national prominence through 300 musicals. On this day in 1993, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, A New Musical, the production co-produced by Disney and Theatre Under the Stars, premiered to captivate audiences with its tale as old as time.
