Disney Delivers the Animated Film 7 Wise Dwarfs to the National Film Board of Canada

Who doesn’t know the lyrics to the classic song “Heigh Ho” from the first Disney animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? But do you remember these lyrics? “Heigh ho, heigh ho, we’re the wisest Dwarfs we know,” or what about “Heigh ho, heigh ho, we all must help, you know. We’ll win the war with five for four, Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho.” This song helped remind audiences to buy Canadian war savings certificates at a cost of five for just $4 when it was featured in the cartoon short 7 Wise Dwarfs, which was delivered to the National Film Board of Canada on this day in 1941. The featurette starts off familiarly with the Dwarfs in their diamond mine, but rather than home from work they go, they march to the bank to do their share in the weapons war drive. Having cashed in their diamonds, the wise Dwarfs march out with war bonds in hand, once again in tune, and proving that they even whistle while they work to help the war cause.
