On this day in 1946, A Knight for a Day turned the calendar back 500 years to tell the tale of the 123rd running of the Canterbury tournament. Goofy portrays multiple roles, including Cedric, an underdog, so to speak, who becomes a knight for a day. When the noble Sir Loinsteak is supposed to joust against Sir Cumference to win both the tournament and the hand of the fair Princess Esmerelda, an accident forces Cedric to take over for Sir Loinsteak. And in typical Goofy fashion, Cedric wins the tournament. As the sports commentator announces, “That’s the way it goes, folks! Chump one day, champ the next. What a day for a knight! And what a knight for a day!”
