Screen legend James Garner stars as Lincoln Costain, a mid-19th century Texan rancher who’s shanghaied placed aboard a ship bound for Hawaii. He escapes his fate by jumping off the ship near the coast of Kauai. Saved from drowning by a young boy, he decides to help the boy’s mother’s failing potato plantation by turning it into a cattle ranch. Along the way he battles with an unscrupulous businessman, who is also his romantic competition, one ups an evil witch doctor and turns some of the islanders into tried-and-true cowpokes. The Castaway Cowboy was filmed on location on the beautiful island of Kauai, and the film’s main setting — the MacAvoy farm — was designed by legendary production designer Robert Clatworthy, a multi Academy Award®-nominated designer who won the Academy Award for Best Art direction for the 1965 film Ship of Fools.
