In 1965, when Walt Disney was looking for the lead in That Darn Cat, he happened to notice the actor who starred in the TV show that preceded Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. The actor turned out to be Dean Jones, who was born on this day in 1931. Over the next decade and a half, Dean continued to appear on television and in films, as well as 10 movies for Disney, including The Love Bug, Blackbeard’s Ghost, The Shaggy D.A., and Million Dollar Duck. In 1995, Dean said in an interview on the Disney Studio Lot, reflecting on appearing in a television series remake of The Love Bug and reprising his role of Jim Douglas, “I’m still working out here. I’m remaking the pictures that I made 30 years ago…It’s amazing to me!”
