On this day in 1987, Patrick Dempsey made his Disney debut in the film Can’t Buy Me Love. As unpopular high school senior Ronny Miller, he is in love with Cindy Mancini (Amanda Peterson), the most popular girl on campus. At the most opportune time, he hires Cindy to pose as his girl so that her popularity might rub off on him. While the plan begins to work, Ronny learns that money might buy you popularity, but it can’t buy you love! Patrick went on to appear in other Disney projects, including Sweet Home Alabama and Enchanted, but to TV fans he may be best known as “McDreamy,” the nickname given to his character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, in the ABC series Grey’s Anatomy.
