Howdy! On this day in 1926, the melodramatic Alice in the Wooly West rode into theaters, starring Margie Gay as the live-action Alice in the animated old west. The story opens with cowboy Julius the cat, atop his trusty steed, riding along merrily while performing exciting lasso tricks. Meanwhile that villainous evil Pete and his gang of mice are after a stagecoach that crashes while trying to escape. And who should emerge but Alice herself, along with some animal inhabitants who are held up at gunpoint. Soon, it’s Julius to the rescue, who singlehandedly conquers Pete’s gang. But wait, Pete has escaped with our heroine. The chase pursues, climaxing with a daring fight at the top of a tall desert rock formation. Julius cleverly strips off his fur and uses it as a decoy while he defeats the villain and becomes Alice’s hero. The end.
