An image promoting D23’s upcoming event in Marceline, Missouri. Set against a vertical striped background, in two varying hues of red, is the D23 logo above a whimsical title treatment of the words “All Aboard to Walt Disney’s Marceline,” mean to evoke the steam coming out of a train. Doc Cater was instrumental in creating the Cater Opera House. This space holds special significance – it’s where young Walt Disney saw his very first theatrical production: Peter Pan, starting the famed Maude Adams. She was one of the biggest stars of the time, and this moment left a lasting impression on Walt. Not only did he later create the beloved animated film, but he also played the role of Peter in a school production right here in Marceline. He even wrote about the experience in a 1953 article called “Why I Made Peter Pan.”

As a fun aside, Maude Adams later joined the faculty at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, just down the road from Marceline. Walt even tried to get her involved in the film as a consultant, though she declined.

Paula Sigman Lowery, Disney Historian, is the expert on Peter Pan and will be available to talk all things Disney while you enjoy Walt’s favorite cookies and lemonade, while waiting for your tour to begin, at the check-in location.

Disney Author Marcy Carriker Smothers will also be available to sign copies of her books. Limited copies of Eat Like Walt: The Wonderful World of Disney Food, Walt’s Disneyland, and 100 Disney Adventures of a Lifetime will be available for purchase at the Walt Disney Hometown Museum.
