Not all of Walt Disney’s stories were derived from the last 20 centuries. In fact, one Academy Award® winner was shelled out somewhere between 620 and 560 BC. Aesop’s Fables were written by the famous storyteller in ancient Greece, telling morally educational stories such as The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Ant and the Grasshopper, and one that was released as a Silly Symphony on this day in 1935, The Tortoise and the Hare, featuring Toby Tortoise and Max Hare. A year later, the duo was drawn together again for a boxing match in the film’s sequel, Toby Tortoise Returns.
