D23 Expo Guests Inspire a Better World

Throughout a star-studded and exhilarating D23 Expo weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center, September 9 through 11, guests visited the “Inspire A Better World” pavilion, where they were able to explore The Walt Disney Company’s social responsibility efforts and participate as honorary Disney VoluntEARS with different activities each day.

On Friday, guests helped to deliver joy when it’s needed most by designing cards of encouragement for children with critical illnesses. Each card designed unlocked a $5 donation to Make-A-Wish®. There were 5,589 cards created and $27,945 raised for Make-A-Wish.

Saturday’s guests were invited to participate in a special all-new virtual experience, inspired by the beauty of Pandora and in celebration of the upcoming release of Avatar: The Way of Water. Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their children), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. See it in theaters beginning December 16, 2022.

Closing out the weekend on Sunday, DonorsChoose invited guests to help allocate a Disney grant across classroom project categories, supporting public schools and empowering students nationwide as part of Disney Future Storytellers. There were 5,121 votes cast to distribute funds across sports programs, reading and creative writing, visual arts, STEM, and music and performing arts.
