Wally Boag and Fulton Burley were birds of a feather when they collaborated on Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Their friendship was hatched while appearing in bit parts in MGM’s Thrill of a Romance and both went on to star for decades in Disneyland’s hilarious live show, The Golden Horseshoe Revue. Wally recalls, “Walt called me up and asked me to join WED (now Walt Disney Imagineering) and be a writer (laughs). He was smart…I was writing in between (Golden Horseshoe) shows!” He recalls getting some help when he was writing the Tiki Room. “Fulton was next door, so he helped me with it. We worked it out. I was (the voice of) Jose and Fulton did such a good job with Michael. The show’s still there (at Disneyland, 46 years later) and it’s in really good shape now.” Boag also recalls being sent to Japan to be involved with the translation to Japanese for Tokyo Disneyland. In the Disneyland show when it rains, Jose chirps, “I think someone has left the shower running,” but since baths were much more popular than showers, the Japanese felt that line would not play well. Boag still gets a chuckle out of the replacement line of dialogue…a popular Japanese saying when there’s lightning, ‘Cover your bellybutton!'”
