For years, Disneyland has been known as the Magic Kingdom, but on this day in 1988 the park got an extra dose of magic from some of the world’s top magicians, when Disney’s Magic in the Magic Kingdom appeared on televisions nationwide. Lance Burton, Harry Anderson, Morgan Fairchild, and John Ratzenberger were some of the guests to join comic legend George Burns for some wit and wizardry. Amongst the tricks, escape artist Dean Gunnarson, who George Burns referred to as the “new Houdini,” escaped from a shark cage submerged in the submarine lagoon. The Pendragons performed a 360-degree levitation, with Charlotte flying and flipping around Jonathan. For the finale of the program, Siegfried and Roy made Sleeping Beauty Castle disappear. But don’t worry, they were kind enough to make it reappear in time for the park’s opening the next morning.
