Since 1934, Disney Legend Clarence “Ducky” Nash provided the voice of Donald Duck. The year of his passing came one year after the most celebrated year of his career. For the 50th year of Donald Duck, Clarence appeared on the Tonight Show, the Academy Awards® ceremony, and the Donald Duck’s 50th Birthday television special. Ducky was also recognized that year in many theme park appearances, signed his name in cement with Donald at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, and was recognized in a ceremony at the White House, where, during his acceptance speech, he reminded President Reagan that they shared being at Disneyland’s opening day together in 1955. The plaque the President presented to Ducky encapsulated his career and read, “To Clarence Ducky Nash, in recognition of his outstanding volunteer service to the Nation as the voice of Donald Duck. For years, Ducky Nash has given generously of his time, energy and talent to bring pleasure and laughter to those in hospitals and institutions around the country. This commendation recognizes that unselfish commitment.”
