First D23 Member Day of 2015 at The Walt Disney Studios

First D23 Member Studio Tours of 2015

Over 200 D23 Members enjoyed tours of the Walt Disney Studios and Archives on Saturday, April 25, at The Walt Disney Company’s headquarters in Burbank, Calif.

Fans came from as far away as Maine, Maryland, Seattle, Michigan, Arkansas, Connecticut, Kansas, and even Japan to enjoy the two-and-a-half hour tour, which took visitors past many of the lot’s iconic landmarks, such as the Mickey Mouse topiary (a gift from Walt Disney World in 1988 to celebrate Mickey’s 60th) and the 150,000-gallon water tower, while venturing into the original Animation Building, the Shorts Building, and more historic buildings that remain in use today at the Studios.

Guests all received Black-ish backpacks courtesy of ABC and Star Wars bookmarks from the Walt Disney Studios, along with their special gift for joining us on the tours. Plus, Disney Legend and Walt Disney Archives founder Dave Smith was on hand to tour guests through the Archives, and he had copies of the new edition of Disney A to Z ready to sign for excited members.

And several guests were treated to a D23 first—this was the first time since launching member tours in 2009 that it rained—er, sprinkled “liquid sunshine”—during the event. All guests took it in stride, as the excitement of the day made any downturn in the weather a footnote to a fantastic time.
