The ruby anniversary of Disneyland also marked the opening of a crown-jewel attraction in Adventureland. Indiana Jones Adventure, designed through the collaborate effort of George Lucas and Walt Disney Imagineering, takes guests on a subterranean archaeological tour through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye with Indiana Jones. The state-of-the-art attraction introduced a brand-new ride system to Disneyland unlike any seen before, sending guests through cavernous scenes with bubbling lava pits, crumbling ceilings, screaming mummies, and a dramatic finale that brings one of the film’s most memorable moments to life. The one-hour syndicated television special that marked the premiere of the attraction was hosted by television comedian Wil Shriner, and celebrated both the attraction opening and the park’s anniversary with celebrity interviews and previews of the new anniversary adventures.
