Enter the world of Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume, where each stitch tells a story. Explore the rich textures and intricate designs that bring Disney’s iconic heroes, villains, and everything in between to life.

This one-of-a-kind exhibition invites you to discover a brilliant array of original costumes, each a masterpiece in its own right. Marvel at the Sanderson Sisters’ wickedly delightful wardrobe from Hocus Pocus 2 (2022); feel the whimsy of Mary Poppins’ enchanting traveling dress from Mary Poppins Returns (2018); and relive the romance of Belle’s timeless ball gown from Beauty and the Beast (2017). Dive deeper into the world of antiheroes with costumes worn by the cunning Evil Queen and the formidable Hook from Once Upon a Time (TV, 2011-18), and admire the dress worn by the unforgettable Letha, portrayed by Bette Davis, in Return from Witch Mountain (1978).

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT (All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives)

Enjoy the elegance of All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives, showcasing a sparkling array of prized jewelry and accessories. From majestic crowns and tiaras to regal watches, rings, and necklaces, this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into iconic jewels up close.

This five-part exhibit delves into the jewels’ significance in completing character ensembles and storytelling. “Every Little Detail” invites you to examine over 80 small yet majestic pieces—from delicate earrings to intricate cuff links and rings; “The Feature Vault” unveils a twinkling collection of crowns, tiaras, necklaces, and pendants that shine with the essence of fantasy; “Watches Through the Decades” takes you on a journey through time, showcasing the Walt Disney Archives’ collection of wrist and pocket watches; “Made for Screen” offers a glimpse behind the curtain of the creation of iconic jewelry props that glimmer on the silver screen; and “Reflections of Reality” celebrates the intertwining of fiction and real-life inspiration, showcasing jewelry and accessories that were inspired by the lives of real people.

All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives brings together some of the best of old and new, highlighting the timeless charm of Disney storytelling. Bask in the glory of King Brian’s crown from Darby O’Gill and the Little People (1959) used by Jimmy O’Dea; be in awe of Elizabeth Swann’s pirate medallion necklace from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) used by Keira Knightley; take in the glitz and glamor of Mia’s coronation crown from Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement (2004) used by Anne Hathaway; and witness the shell-stopping necklace Ursula’s use to capture Ariel’s voice from The Little Mermaid (2023) used by Melissa McCarthy.

  • The Arlington Museum of Art is located in the Arlington Entertainment District, with many private and city-owned parking lots nearby.
  • The closest city lot to the AMA is just behind (to the west of) the museum and is accessible from Ballpark Way. There is a $10 fee to park in this lot. 

Rideshare Information:

  • Arlington on Demand is a city-wide service that will take you point-to-point anywhere in Arlington for $5 or less. Wheelchair and accessibility accommodations can be made in advance.

NOTES

  • D23 Members may reserve a ticket for themselves and up to three (3) guests.
  • Each attendee must have a ticket in their possession for entry.
  • There are a limited number of tickets available. D23 Members must log in by using their D23 Member account information when reserving tickets.
  • All guests under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to attend this D23 event and will require an event ticket for admission.
  • Children under 2 years old do not require a ticket. However, only guests with D23 tickets will receive the event gift.
  • D23 Members who do not bring their membership card and tickets may not be admitted to the event. Membership card may be a physical card or a digital membership card found in the D23 App.
  • Guests who are age 21+ are required to present valid government-issued photo IDs to consume alcoholic beverages.
  • Ticketed Members and guests who do not attend the event forfeit their place, as well as all experiences, benefits, and gifts associated with the event. D23 Members must be present or guests will not gain admittance to the event.

Attendees in costume must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Costumes may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable, or violent.
  • Guests may wear costume masks. However, costume masks must not obstruct vision and must be removable. Costume masks must be removed at security screening.
  • Costumes should not drag on the ground.
  • Costumes should not contain sharp objects, pointed objects, or materials that may accidentally strike another guest.
  • Costumes should not contain any weapons that resemble, can be used as, or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon. Costume swords must be anchored to your costume in such a way that they can’t be drawn. No firearms, projectiles, or arrows (simulated or otherwise) will be allowed.
  • Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into the event unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards. The appropriateness of the guest costume will be determined by Disney in its sole discretion.

All D23 events are subject to change without notice. All ticket sales are final. There are strictly no cancellations or refunds regardless of reason (including, without limitation, due to illness, change in travel plans, etc.) and tickets are not transferable.
